PHOTOS - HYDROCARBON CONTAMINATED SOIL - GOVERNMENTAL SITE

Biological Treatment Summary

Treatment Photos

The Situation

A governmental agency contracted with a firm in the northern part of the United States to compost hydrocarbon contaminated soil, which was a heavy clay, soil mix. The firm continuously tested and monitored the compost site for five years without achieving clean-up standards. Test reports indicated the presence of elevated Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) levels ranging from 150 mg/Kg to 3700 mg/kg.

The Solution

Bio-Form LLC recommended a biological treatment program utilizing OBT®. The program consisted of OBT® Oil Degradation and BZT® Xtra-Wet applications. The soil was tilled and moisture was tested and adjusted.

The Results

After just three months, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) levels had been reduced to less than 10 mg/Kg using method 8015. The governmental agency was able to officially close this site.

mg/Kg = ppm (parts per million)
TPH = Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons
(Utilizing EPA Method 8015M)
