Biological Treatment Summary

The Situation

A major pipeline and energy services company frequently performed bioremediation at one of their transfer stations. The company had constructed several bio-pads to store and treat soil. Over the past few years, the company has utilized several commercially available products with less than favorable results. Bioremediation generally took months to achieve non-detectable levels. Another problem that the company faced was that the products generally were not completely soluble and plugged pumps, spraying equipment, etc.

The Solution

Bio-Form LLC recommended treating a pile with OBT®. The proposal covered the treatment of a pile with TPH concentrations at 61,000 mg/L. The source of contamination was extremely heavy hydraulic type oil.

The Results

Within one week, TPH levels had dropped to 1800 mg/L. Complete reduction to non-detectable levels of TPH occurred at the 5th week. The company also liked the fact that OBT® is 100% soluble in water. The company is now using OBT® exclusively in all of its bioremediation applications.
