WASTE
STREAM
PROCESSING
- CRUISE
LINE
Biological
Treatment
Summary
The
Situation
A cruise
line
company
with
midsize
cruising
vessels
was
seeking
an all-natural
solution
to enhance
their
waste
stream
processing
and
allow
for
an environmentally
friendly
discharge
from
their
cruising
vessels.
Organic
solids
and
other
waste
accumulated
throughout
the
waste
stream,
which
resulted
in an
overall
reduction
in the
flow
of the
waste
stream.
Repeated
problems
with
fats,
oils,
and
greases
that
accumulated
in their
grease
trap
caused
the
trap
to function
improperly
and
required
labor
intensive
cleaning.
The
company
wanted
an easy,
cost
effective
and
all-natural
treatment
alternative
that
would
allow
them
to manage,
stabilize,
and
reduce
the
build
up in
their
waste
stream
and
grease
trap.
The
Solution
Bio-Form LLC
Inc.
proposed
a biological
treatment
program
using
BZT®
Waste
Digester.
The
treatment
program
consisted
of an
initial
seed
application,
followed
by regular
maintenance
applications
where
BZT®
Waste
Digester
was
mixed
with
water
and
poured
directly
into
the
vessels'
drainlines,
black
and
gray
water
tanks,
and
grease
trap
unit.
The
treatment
program
was
designed
to reduce
the
overall
volume
of organic
solids,
fats,
oils
and
greases
in the
waste
stream,
and
improve
the
flow
rate
in the
system.
The
Result
Within
days
of the
initial
seed
application,
there
was
a dramatic
decrease
in organic
solids
in the
black
and
gray
water
tanks.
Overall
flow
improved
significantly
within
the
first
week
of the
treatment
program.
Additionally,
since
the
first
treatment,
the
grease
trap
unit
has
not
required
any
expensive
and
time
consuming
clean
outs.
By using
this
environmentally
friendly
product,
the
company
has
been
able
to accomplish
their
targeted
goals
of improving
efficiency
in the
waste
stream.
The
success
of this
biological
treatment
program
has
pleased
the
company
so extensively,
that
they
are
now
incorporating
the
BZT®
Waste
Digester
treatment
program
among
other
vessels
in their
fleet.
