OIL
&
GREASE
IN WASTEWATER
REDUCTION
- FOOD
PROCESSING
Biological
Treatment
Summary
The
Situation
A food
company
that
manufactures
fried
chicken
and
fried
steak
patties
faced
compliance
issues
with
the
local
wastewater
treatment
facilities.
Oil
&
Grease
levels
were
constantly
above
the
allowable
limits.
In addition,
grease
tended
to solidify
downstream
causing
frequent
back
ups.
City
pump
trucks
were
called
out
weekly
to pump
grease
from
manholes
and
lift
stations.
The
company's
wastewater
system
consisted
of a
large
grease
trap
followed
by a
skimmer.
The
Solution
Bio-Form LLC
recommended
a biological
treatment
protocol
that
treated
both
the
grease
trap
and
the
skimmer
unit.
The
biological
product
that
the
company
had
used
historically
was
replaced
with
BZT®
Waste
Digester.
The
Results
Since
beginning
the
treatment
protocol
in June
1998,
the
company
has
been
well
within
Oil
&
Grease
limits.
In addition,
the
city
has
not
had
to pump
manholes
down
the
line
since
the
treatment
was
started.
