Summary
The
Situation
A rendering
facility
faced
numerous
issues
with
its
series
of wastewater
lagoons.
- Sludge
build
up
had
begun
to
take
over
the
lagoon,
decreasing
lagoon
capacity
and
putting
regulatory
limits
in
jeopardy.
- Oil
and
grease
caps
had
taken
over
two
of
the
lagoons,
limiting
their
ability
to
aerate
the
system.
- Local
businesses
and
residents
complained
about
the
odor
generating
from
the
lagoons.
- The
company's
only
known
solution
was
to
dredge
the
lagoons
and
dispose
of
the
sludge.
The
Solution
Bio-Form LLC
personnel
proposed
a bioaugmentation
program
that
consisted
of the
addition
of BZT®
Waste
Digester
throughout
the
lagoon
system.
Bio-Form LLC
proposed
that
an initial
seed
application
be performed
followed
by regular
weekly
maintenance
applications.
The
treatment
program
was
designed
to decrease
the
overall
sludge
volume,
decrease
oils
and
greases,
and
keep
odors
under
control.
The
Result
No
odors,
no sludge,
no grease
caps.
Within
days
of the
initial
seed
applications,
there
was
a dramatic
decrease
in the
odor
generating
from
the
lagoons
and
the
oil
and
grease
cap
had
been
taken
under
control.
Eventually,
the
odors
from
the
lagoons
were
eliminated.
Sludge
depth
readings
were
taken
at 60
days
and
120
days.
The
initial
readings
(60
days)
showed
an average
sludge
reduction
of 45%
across
all
the
lagoons.
The
sludge
depth
readings
taken
at 120
days
showed
3-6"
[7.62-15.24cm]
of sludge
left
in lagoons
2 and
3, with
sludge
reductions
of over
60%
in lagoons
4 and
5. Please
note
that
the
treatment
program
was
not
as aggressive
for
lagoons
4 and
5 as
it was
for
lagoons
2 and
3.
The
company
continues
to rely
on BZT®
Waste
Digester
for
its
performance
and
benefits.
The
corporate
headquarters
of the
subject
company
is now
introducing
BZT®
Waste
Digester
and
Bio-Form LLC
to many
of its
other
facilities
nationwide.
